State-of-the-art RFID technology isn’t exactly what you’d expect to find in the grounds of a 17th century house that was once the ancestral home of the Earls of Kildare. But, thanks to Intellitix, that’s exactly what golfing fanatics will experience when they attend 2013 edition of the Irish Open championship, which takes place at Carton House in Co Kildare, Ireland, 27-30 June.
VIPs, media, BMW owners and invited guests will be issued with an RFID wristband (supplied by ID&C) which they will use for a variety of purposes around the grounds including to claim merchandise discounts, or redeem complementary drink and food items.
Additionally, a state-of-the-art Intellitix RFID access control system will be in place at the exclusive 17th hole grandstand, where guests will watch the best golf players in the world compete for the prestigious accolade.
Carton House is spread across a 1,100-acre private, parkland estate, and features two golf courses, a leisure centre with pool, spa, training pitches and tennis courts.
Confirmed players include Damien McGrane, Darren Clarke, Gareth Maybin, Graeme McDowell, Jamie Donaldson, Pádraig Harrington, Paul McGinley, Peter Lawrie, Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry.
